REFUSE RESOURCE RECOVERY SET TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY

It seems like Jason Adams was born to recycle. As part of a business degree at UVic back in the nineties, Adams offset the cost of his education by making three to four trips to the landfill a day when he helped bring “The Rubbish Boys” to Victoria. They went on to become 1-800-GOT-JUNK? He went on to a job with Penner Recycling and pioneered paper recycling from Victoria offices. For a time, Adams was happy to be employed in a field he seemed to enjoy. Then Penner was bought out, and he was suddenly out of a job. The moment of truth had arrived. Adams seized it. He registered a domain, bought a used garbage truck, a laptop and a cell phone. reFUSE Resource Recovery was launched on January 11, 2002 with one client: Royal Roads University. Today, Royal Roads is still a client. But a lot has changed since Adams first took the Brentwood Bay ferry to Cobble Hill with an beat up truck that was too heavy to drive the Malahat. The move to zero waste has gone mainstream and along the way Adams has picked up a who’s who of our most famous eating establishments, more than 60 local schools, every major centre of higher learning, progressive gourmet food markets and forward-thinking sustainable businesses. Lately, reFUSE has added people-powered recycling with the reCYCLISTS, a drop off location on Government street, styrofoam recycling and service to Salt Spring Island. With over a million dollars in sales this year, the business that started with a job loss, has really come into its own. And this is just the beginning. ### About the Company reFUSE Resource Rcovery is the South Island’s first and leading organics recycling service with pick up in Greater Victoria, the Cowichan Valley and on Salt Spring Island.
