REFUSE RESOURCE RECOVERY SET TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY

It seems like Jason Adams was born to recycle. As part of a business degree at UVic back in the nineties, Adams offset the cost of his education by making three to four trips to the landfill a day when he helped bring “The Rubbish Boys” to Victoria. They went on to become 1-800-GOT-JUNK? He went on to a job with Penner Recycling and pioneered paper recycling from Victoria offices.

From the CRD Website – crd.bc.ca/ecostar:
The transformation of our communities from waste producers to waste reducers is an essential part of sustainable living on our planet. By reducing waste at the source and treating existing waste as a resource, we can create a cleaner, healthier region. The Waste Reduction Award celebrates an individual, group or organization making outstanding contributions through programs or projects that reduce the waste entering Hartland Landfill or deal with waste in a more environmentally responsible manner. Waste reduction could involve recycling, reuse or waste-to-energy processes, reduction or source control efforts or proper disposal programs such as the pharmaceuticals return program. Projects should be working toward positive alternatives to disposal which could be implemented by other individuals or businesses and which work to increase awareness of waste reduction needs.
